| Residential
Design - Maurandy House. |
|
Envrionmental:
The house is a solar design. Super insulated: R65+ roof, R30+
concrete thermal mass rainscreen walls, triple-glazed North windows,
and an open plan. Timber beams are installed, reclaimed from the
bottom of Lake Superior. A screened outdoor room and large roof
overhangs. The main roof faces south and provides a massive area for
installation of a photovoltaic array. The North roof hunkers down
low. The owner required a fire place. The fire place and
chimney were constructed inside the building envelope. The house
was designed to be understated for a tight site that necessitated the
structure to be near the road. A high-efficiency air conditioning
system with energy recovery ventilator was installed to provide fresh
air to the interior. Radiant heating is installed at all levels.
